Low-Carbon Self-Healing Concrete: State-of-the-Art, Challenges and Opportunities

The sustainability of the construction industry is a priority in innovations made towards mitigating its notoriously high carbon emissions. Developments low-carbon concrete technology are peak interest today under scrutiny emerging policy pressures. Concrete external part most structures vulnerable to permanent degradation and weathering, possibility an intrinsic restoration engineering properties promises unprecedented advancements structural resilience. Existing research self-healing (SHC) has often concerned scope material development evaluation with inconclusive field testing, hindering progress feasibility. This paper presents overview recent SHC, possible opportunities challenges popular healing systems discussed. Moreover, trends observed investigate SHC’s influence on concrete, future projections SHC suggested identification potential needs.
